PETS AT HOME HALL ROAD NORWICH COLLECTION & AWARENESS DAY 31.08.14
Great support from the public today.

Lots of stories heard from people who have rescued greyhounds and other unwanted dogs.

ALL ABOUT DOGS SHOW NORFOLK SHOWGROUND AFG CAMPAIGN AWARENESS/SALE OF MERCHANDISE STALL 24&25.08.14
Always a very popular event attracting people and hounds from all over the country.

Such a wide variety of dogs, as the show stages so many events from various fun show rings to agility competitions, something for everyone, with a huge variety of dog related stalls and several dog rescue stalls.

Sunday was attended by thousands and we were rushed off our feet, but sadly the Bank holiday Monday was not so good as it rained all day. Never the less, we managed to distribute hundreds of leaflets, sold lots of merchandise, the very popular ‘ dog tombola sold out and we raised some very much needed funds.

Our stall competition this year was ‘Name the Greyhound’ with the prize of a beautifully crafted giant knitted greyhound. The name chosen at the end of the show was Yogi and was won by a delighted Hanna, an 11 year old girl from Norwich.

CROMER CARNIVAL’S ANNUAL GIANT CAR BOOT SALE AFG MERCHANDISE/BRIC A BRAC STALL 16.08.14
A very busy day at this very well attended popular event, although a chilly wind, at least it stayed dry all day.

Met many holiday makers and several rescued greyhounds, many who had been adopted from various rescues up and down the country.

Great to have Rosemary and her gorgeous rescued greyhound Sean (from Afg Sheffield) helping today, whilst giving up a day of her 2 week Norfolk holiday.

We are very lucky to have such quality items donated for us to sell at our car boot sales and charity stalls throughout the year. Great interest in the knitted hats, snoods and neck bands we also displayed on the stall, of which several were sold.

REDHILL TOWN CENTRE AFG SUSSEX STREET COLLECTION/AWARENESS DAY 16.08.14
Thanks again to Lisa for organizing this event.
A great day with great support from the general public, hundreds of awareness leaflets distributed and many generous donations given.

WROXHAM AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION WEEK O8-14.08.14
Thanks again to the great support of Roys of Wroxham we were able to hold our annual Summer event at their store.

Wroxham and the Norfolk Broads are very popular holiday destinations, not only with people from all over the country but also with many visitors from overseas, some of whom we meet each year and of course we are always well supported by the local people too.

It is good to hear all the stories from across the country about where people have adopted their greyhounds and other dogs from and so encouraging to learn that so many people choose to adopt rather than buy dogs from breeders and so helping to reduce the need for healthy unwanted dogs being needlessly destroyed.

COLLECTION and AWARENESS WEEKEND PETS AT HOME SPROWSTON, NORWICH 05 & 06.07.2014
A very busy weekend with lots of interest from the public and some very generous donations were made.

AFG SUSSEX STREET COLLECTION and AWARENESS DAY DORKING, SURREY 09.07.2014
Thanks again to Lisa for organizing the day and for the help of all the other supporters. Reports sent are those of great interest and support for the campaign from the public.

COLLECTION and AWARENESS WEEKEND PETS AT HOME, HALL ROAD, NORWICH 12&13. 07.2014
Again a lovely weekend, meaning the store was very busy, whereby we had lots of interest and support from the public.

We hold these weekends at 3 different Pets at Home stores in Norwich, twice a year and it always amazes us that although we always meet many regular customers, we also are always meeting new people.

AFG SUSSEX COLLECTION and AWARENESS DAY. REIGATE, SURREY 18.07.2014
Again Lisa organized another great day with the help of dedicated volunteers who always send reports of a successful day with great public interest and support.

CHARITY STALL and STREET COLLECTION, AWARENESS DAY NORWICH CITY CENTER 26.07.2014
This years second annual campaign awareness event was Greyhound Remembrance Weekend, which is held over the nearest weekend to July 24th, which is when commercial greyhound racing first started in Britain.

Awareness is raised and memorials are held to remember the hundreds and thousands of greyhounds who have lost their lives since then, in the hands of the greyhound racing industry.

The City was heaving with people and lots of visiting holiday makers, Although Afg had their monthly charity stall on the Haymarket, we also had several rescued greyhounds outside and opposite Lush. Of course the hounds, as usual received lots of admiration and attention. It was a very warm day and the hounds were kept comfortable and cool wearing their wet coats and shaded with big sunshades.

Even more public in the City than usual as today was also the Norwich Pride event and march through the city.

Lush as usual gave us great support by displaying our Greyhounds Remembered posters in their windows and displaying our leaflets and poems on their shop counter and distributing them to their customers.

AFG AWARENESS TABLE NORWICH VEGGIE AND VEGAN FAYRE QUAKER MEETING HOUSE, NORWICH. 26.07.2014
As well as our busy events in the City, we also had an awareness table at the busy fayre which was well supported by other animal rights campaigns and cruelty free promotion groups, not only local groups but many others from across the country.

The event gets bigger each year and is very well attended by the public.

All good for promoting a cruelty free lifestyle and generating great awareness, hopefully converting many more people.

AFG’S ‘DYING TO ENTERTAIN YOU’ BUS AD CAMPAIGN STARTS in 6 TOWNS and CITIES ACROSS THE UK. 24.07.2014
After months of careful planning, our bus advertising awareness campaign starts to coincide with Greyhound Remembrance weekend.

Our powerful ‘Dying To Entertain You’ posters carried on the rear of buses in 6 towns and cities across the country, many within the catchment area of greyhound stadiums. Starting to coincide with Greyhound Remembrance Weekend and to continue for 8 weeks during the busy holiday season, for mass public awareness. Sunderland, Newcastle, Swindon, Yarmouth, Wimbledon and Chatham/Gillingham.

Photos of the buses were emailed to AFG and posted on the special facebook page which was set up at the end of June, prior to the start of the bus ad campaign.
Dying to entertain you

AFG COLLECTION and AWARENESS DAY SHEFFIELD. 26.07.2014
Another great public awareness event by Rosemary accompanied by her beautiful rescued greyhound Sean.

Sean is becoming quite a celeb with the public, many of who have got to know him from Rosemary’s regular events.

Many people experience the ‘ greyhound lean’ with Sean who will take any opportunity to push up to people and have a good lean on them if they stand still for long enough.

Sean is a great ambassador for showing people how friendly and gentle greyhounds really are, once they have had the chance to be lucky enough to find a loving home where they are treated as much loved members of the family.

VIRGINIA’S AWARENESS TABLE IN UPMINSTER 26.07.2014
Virginia asked AFG to send her an awareness leaflets and posters, so she could include them on her awareness table she was doing on the day for Animal Aid.

We are very grateful to Virginia for raising awareness for Afg and the plight of greyhounds who are bred, used and disposed of by the greyhound racing industry, especially on Greyhound Remembrance Weekend.

NEW AFG FACEBOOK PAGE ‘DYING TO ENTERTAIN YOU’ 23.06.2014

AFG SUSSEX STREET COLLECTION/AWARENESS EVENT DORKING 05.06.2014
Lisa organized another street collection helped by other supporters of AFG.

Always a great response from the public who donate very generously.

This group are doing a great job with awareness and fundraising events and are now holding very regular protests outside their local greyhound tack Brighton&Hove.
The group are steadily gaining more supporters in their area.
AFG SHEFFIELD STREET COLLECTION/AWARENESS EVENT. 14.06.2014
Rosemary, accompanied by her wonderful rescued greyhound Sean, today wearing his AFG vest hand crafted by Rosemary so Sean can also help to raise awareness.

Lots of great support from the public, many who state they would never go to dog or horse racing.

It is no wonder the local Owlerton greyhound stadium work so hard to encourage charities and good causes to support greyhound racing and have ‘cheap nights’ at the racing for students, with so many locals seeming to be opposed to the industry.

AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION WEEKEND PETS AT HOME YARMOUTH 28 and 29.06.204
Again great support from the public.

Very surprised how many people stated they are against horse and dog racing, considering this is a seaside holiday town with both a greyhound and horse racing stadiums.

Many people with rescued dogs and people telling us stories about animals they have rescued, so very encouraging that so many people are choosing to adopt rather then breed or buy animals from breeders.

A lovely couple with a shop in Yarmouth also took a stack of leaflets and an AFG collection pot to display on their shop counter.

May 2014

This month saw the first weekend of 3rd and 4th with various Remember Rusty events being held.

This memorial weekend is the first of AFG’s annual campaign awareness events as it is the nearest weekend to May 2nd when poor greyhound Rusty was found, tortured and mutilated on a welsh mountainside.

As well as our local event, other supporters held events including protests outside greyhound tracks – click here to see demonstrations section.

COLLECTION/AWARENESS WEEKEND PETS AT HOME, COSTESSEY, NORWICH 24 & 25.05.2014
The first of our events this year at Pets at Home.

We are fortunate enough to have three Pets at Home Stores in Norwich and all have ample room outside for us to erect our purpose built shelter, meaning all hounds who accompany us are kept comfortable, if the weather is either warm or cooler.

Once again we had great support from the public and we always hope that as well as encouraging people not to support greyhound racing that they will also consider adopting a rescue animal rather than buying one from a breeder.

Always nice to hear peoples stories about animals they have rescued too.

And as if we need to mention….the hounds received lots of attention, which of course they enjoyed.

NORWICH CITY CENTER, STREET COLLECTION AND CHARITY STALL. 03.05.2014
A very busy day with the charity stall buzzing with interested buyers all day and further down opposite Lush store, we had our street collection and leafleting station with several beautiful greyhounds being adored and made lots of fuss of by the public.

We were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the public and were pleased to be reassured of how important the work we are doing to help greyhounds is.

The Lush shop opposite are always very supportive and displayed an AFG collection pot and leaflets in store throughout the day.

Of course the weather made all the difference and although a little breezy, at least it stayed dry, which is nice for the hounds present.

AFG SUSSEX MEMORIAL WALK FOR RUSTY LEWES SUSSEX 03.05.2014
Angeline from AFG Sussex organized a 6 mile sponsored walk with leafleting for their Remember Rusty event.

As well as her ‘ Go Fund Me ‘ page, Angeline also had great support from her paper sponsor forms, distributed prior to the walk.
Angeline was joined by other members of AFG Sussex.

The group took advantage of the busy public festival in the town of Lewes as well as having the opportunity of distributing leaflets and discussing the campaign with visitors at the Medieval event which was being held at a location along the route of the walk.

The group say the whole day was very emotional and yet a great success with more people being educated of the plight of greyhounds.

After their very busy day, the group went on to hold a peaceful protest outside their local greyhound track, Brighton & Hove stadium, owned by Coral bookmakers

REMEMBER RUSTY AWARENESS DAY and STREET COLLECTION SHEFFIELD 03.05.2014

Rosemary and her wonderful rescued greyhound Sean, always busy raising awareness, and of course Sean is so adored by all who meet him, who can resist this boy who has the knack of making people feel guilty if they do not pay him attention.

Today with their street collection and as well as distributing the general AFG leaflets the special Remember Rusty leaflets were distributed, which touched the hearts of many members of the public, most of course who do not agree with greyhound racing.

Rosemary is also doing a great job of making people aware of how many charities and good causes are either raising funds at greyhound tracks or accepting money made from greyhound racing, which is something AFG are trying to urge these groups not to do.

Other supporters were leaving Rusty leaflets on display at their local vets, pet stores, dog clubs and places of work.

Of course along with dear Rusty we do not forget the hundreds of thousands of other greyhounds who have suffered and died in the hands of greyhound racing.

Beautiful greyhound Sean

AIDEN’S 4 DAY EASTER FOOD FAST TO HELP GREYHOUNDS 18th,19th, 20th and 21st.04.2014

Aiden Box from Wiltshire did a 4 day Easter Food Fast.

He set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ page for his fundraiser with a target of £500.00 to help the greyhounds, by way of raising funds to help to produce campaign awareness materials.
£200.00 of the £500.00 Aiden raised was donated to AFG.
What a selfless gesture by such a kind supporter.

AFG SHEFFIELD STALL AT TABLE TOP SALE PENISTONE 09.04.2014

Rosemary and her mother had a stall with AFG merchandise on sale with our campaign leaflets on display.

The ladies also gathered some lovely items for their tombola which proved very popular, with no prizes left at the end of the event.

Their stall also gained lots of interest of the plight of greyhounds from the visiting public.

March 2014

SWINDON VEGETARIANS and ANIMAL CONCERN AWARENESS/FUNDRAISING TABLE CENTRE OF SWINDON 29.03.2014

As well as displaying other animal protection campaign materials on the stall, the group also displayed and distributed many AFG campaign leaflets, as well as displaying our National and International petitions which gained many signatures.

Swindon

Thank you to the group for supporting AFG.

NEW PUBLICATION ‘BEHIND THE LIGHTS, THE TOTE AND THE NON-STARTERS’ 22.03.2014

This month saw the launch of the long awaited publication of the book ‘Behind the Lights, the Tote and the Non-starters’ written by Sighthound Mad and published by Grey UK and distributed by AFG, who receive all profits made from the sale of each book.

The book is proving to be much in demand with steady sales.

January and February 2014

With some very welcome mild weather for this time of year, we have been able to do 2 charity stalls a month in Norwich City centre, where we have continued to sell our very popular 2014 calendars and some of our other unique merchandise as well as some very good quality bric-a-brac and books which we regularly have donated from kind people.

Also sales of merchandise have been steady on the website with our popular pixie hats, balaclavas, snoods and neck bands for sighthounds of all sizes.

Also various shops and businesses have continued to receive donations in the AFG collections tins they have on display.

The first quarter of the year is always a difficult time for fundraising and awareness events, so we appreciate everything our supporters do to help.
