AFG’s NEW AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR SUMMER 2015 LAUNCHED 07.08.2015 WHERE HAVE ALL THE GREYHOUNDS GONE?
After weeks of planning, Action for Greyhounds’ new awareness campaign for 2015 has started today.
Following last Summers’ bus ad campaign which was very successful, this new campaign is a step up or rather several steps up.
‘Where have All the Greyhounds gone?’ is a 30 second advert now showing in the Hollywood cinema, Yarmouth, Norfolk. The film gives out a strong message whilst being non offensive and has been passed by the British Board of Film censors and the Advertising Standards Agency ,as suitable viewing for all ages. The film will be shown in all 5 screens, every day, before every film for 12 months, so will continue through the start of next years Summer holiday time too. So aims to raise mass awareness to a captive audience.
Estimated viewing figures for the 12 months is 170,000 and over the coming year, due to the high proportion of blockbuster films, there will be a 10 o/o increase in viewing figures. Our aim is to continue this campaign for the foreseeable future and have the advert shown in cinemas across the country. We have the option of changing the advert every 3 months which means we can get even more information out about all that is wrong with the greyhound racing industry.
Please enjoy and share the film
CHARITY STALL, HAYMARKET, NORWICH 01.08.2015
Another great day on the charity stall in the heart of the City, with lots of regular customers browsing, buying, making donations and fussing our hounds, as well as meeting new customers who were holidaying or visiting Norwich and Norfolk.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION WEEK ROYS of WROXHAM 08,09,12 and 13th.08.2015
A great week and fabulous weather for our annual event at the very busy and popular Roys of Wroxham.
We are very lucky to be allocated such a great space at the front and rear of Roys department store, to accommodate our beautiful hounds comfortably.
We always have great support from locals and with the Norfolk Broads being a very popular holiday destination we also have the opportunity to raise awareness to people from all over the country as well as from overseas, all who are very supportive of the Afg campaign.
Of course the hounds received lashings of attention as usual, which they never tire of. Lots of children and toddlers wanting to pay attention to the hounds and wanting to donate their pennies into our collection buckets. Children were very pleased to receive our special stickers, which they wore with pride.
Several people had commented on seeing our new cinema advert campaign which started on August 7th at the Hollywood cinema in Yarmouth, so we are very pleased people are praising us for this new awareness initiative.
Nowadays people are commenting to us of “how badly greyhounds are treated and how many are just ‘money making machines’ who are no longer wanted when they are not fast enough to win races and make money for people who own and people who bet on them”, so this is always very encouraging to hear, as it means less people are supporting greyhound racing once they know about of the plight of the greyhounds.
AFG AWARENESS/CAR BOOT STALL SPROWSTON PARK AND RIDE SITE, NORWICH 16.08.2015
AfG had a busy day at the very popular car boot sale at Sprowston Park and Ride site on Sunday August 16th. The hounds meet lots of people and are always popular with children who spend a lot of time petting them.
Little AfG foster lurcher pup, Fiz, wasn’t short of children to play with and people to make a fuss of her, so plenty of opportunity for her to get well socialised.
Lots of holiday makers as well as locals showing interest in our campaign. We received a lot of very generous donations as well as selling our quality items which are donated to our cause.
AFG CAR BOOT STALL HELLESDON HIGH SCHOOL, NORWICH 22.08.2015
A very popular Spring and Summer car boot sale, we are always given a great space for our stall and the organizers are so understanding when we ask to face a certain way so to keep accompanying hounds in the shade when necessary.
Today was a particularly hot day so the hounds were kept very cool in their wet coats.
Little foster lurcher pup Fiz received lots of attention, it isn’t often we have a young pup, so quite a novelty for car boot visitors, especially being kept entertained by her hilarious antics.
Again, we are so fortunate to always offer lots of great bargains to customers, due to the quality items which continue to be donated to us to sell.
AFG SUSSEX STREET COLLECTION/AWARENESS DAY DORKING,SURREY 22.08.2015
Thanks go again to Lisa for organizing another successful event at this busy location, again lots of public awareness raised with hundreds of leaflets distributed.
AfG have had a lot merchandise purchased from our website from around this area, so this could be due to the awareness events from the group.
AFG SUSSEX STREET COLLECTION/AWARENESS DAY DORKING, TOWN CENTRE 22.08.2015
Another great event organized by one of our very dedicated campaign supporters, Lisa. Lisa is getting very well known with her awareness days in and around Surrey and Sussex. Distributing hundreds of our leaflets and encouraging people not to support greyhound racing.
Often peole ask if they can take a way a few leaflets to have at their place of work or to give to friends and relatives who go to greyhound racing.
AFG CAR BOOT STALL STALHAM 23.08.2015
Another popular car boot sale, which is a late start Sunday sale, open to the public at 11 am, so we have plenty of time to get set up and being not far from the seaside, so the hounds have a great time when we pack away with a trip to the beach.
We meet lots of new people here as we only do about 2 stalls a year and its about 20 miles from Norwich, so even more new people to raise awareness to and get our campaign known further afield.
AFG STAND AT ALL ABOUT DOGS EVENT NORFOLK SHOWGROUND 30 and 31.08.2015
Once again we had a fantastic space for our stand at this very popular bank holiday annual show.
Lots of our unique merchandise sold and our dog tombola was a favorite as usual, lots of leaflets distributed and donations received in our collection pots.
We meet lots of people who attend the show every year, many of them making a point of visiting our stall, especially it seems to meet all our lovely hounds who accompany us.
We meet lots of sighthounds and other breeds and it’s so encouraging to learn that so many of them have been rescued rather than brought from breeders.
After having such a fantastic day on the Sunday, sadly as last year, the awful weather let us down for the Bank Holiday Monday and we made the decision, rather than have the hounds made uncomfortable and risk having our merchandise ruined, to pack the stand away before the show opened.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION WEEKEND PETS AT HOME SPROWSTON,NORWICH 04 & 05.07.2015
Another very busy weekend for us, this time at another of the three Pets at Home stores in Norwich.
Again, the store were so kind for allowing us such a large space outside to accommodate our awareness station.
Lots of people and children wanting to make a fuss of the beautiful hounds and listened intently to all their different stories of their past and how they came into our care. One person said he was recently ‘dragged along’ to a local greyhound track as part of his friends stag do and didn’t want to let his friend down by refusing to go, but didn’t enjoy the evening at all and said it is not a form of a night of entertainment he would go to again. He said most of the group did not even watch the racing or place bets as they were all to busy getting drunk and he said they could have just gone anywhere to do that and it was a shame they were giving their money to a greyhound stadium.
So at least one more person will never be supporting greyhound racing.
It was lovely on the Sunday to be accompanied by Rosemary and Philip from Afg in Sheffield and their beautiful greyhound Sean (who we referred to toady as ‘Sheffield Sean’), they took a day out from their Norfolk holiday to be with us on this event and Sean loved meeting all the people and mingling with the other hounds.
AFG SURREY AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAY DORKING, SURREY 04.07.2015
A very busy day for the Surrey campaigners, with the impressive awareness stall organized by Lisa.
Very positive support from members of the public with hundreds of leaflets distributed and very generous donations were made to add to vital funds for our campaign.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAY PETS AT HOME LOWESTOFT,SUFFOLK 12.07.2015
Another great day with fantastic support from the public.
A new little greyhound named Zen, who recently came into the care of Afg accompanied us today and loved all the attention.
People were shocked when hearing his story…a young greyhound left in Ennis pound in Southern Ireland with an untreated damaged leg, who no doubt would have been put to sleep had he not been saved by some compassionate people who try to save as many greyhounds and other breeds as they can, from the pound.
Not only hearing his story but actually for people to meet such a charming little hound, knowing his fate could have been so very much different really brings the reality to people of just how many young healthy greyhounds do get destroyed.
Of course, little Zen is just one of the very lucky ones who are saved.
We gave away some of our few left over 2015 calendars today to people who were interested in the history of the hounds present so they could read further and learn more about our campaign.
AFG CAR BOOT & AWARENESS STALL HELLEDON HIGH SCHOOL, NORWICH 18.07.2015
A beautiful day today for Afg to have a stall at the early car boot at Hellesdon High School. Lots of interest in our beautiful hounds and a chance to promote our campaign and issue leaflets.
The hounds always enjoy the attention and it’s nice for people to see how very gentle they are with children and toddlers. As the Hellesdon carnival, fun day and dog show was starting at 11 am and was just up the road we decided to pop up there after the car boot sale.
We saw the fantastic parade and there were over 70 stalls with lots of fun games and attractions going on too. We decided to enter a couple of hounds into the fun dog show and to our great surprise, Zen won best rescued dog with Wilf coming third and Wilf won the most handsome dog, then went on to win Best in Show from the non-pedigree section. All prize winners received goody bags. so we came away with lots of treats and toys and some splendid rosettes and Wilf’s Best in Show 2015 trophy. The hounds met a wonderful Shetland pony named Buddy (wearing a Norwich City FC scarf) and yes – Wilf was bigger than the pony, hence his other pet name ‘Pony Hound’.
Of course we had even more opportunities do raise awareness here’ by talking to lots of people and the show organizers about Afg and tell the stories of the hounds and the general plight of greyhounds bred and used for racing.
AFG SURREY AWARENESS DAY/STREET COLLECTION RIEGATE, SURREY 18.07.2015
Many thanks again to Lisa, for organizing another event, this time in Reigate.
An impressive stall with great support from the public throughout the day.
Some people asked for leaflets to take into their places of work and to display in their local libraries and veterinary surgeries, so the awareness will be ongoing after today’s event.
AFG GREYHOUND REMEMBRANCE AWARENESS DAY HAYMARKET and GENTLEMAN’S WALK, NORWICH. 25.07.2015
Over the nearest weekend to July 24th, AfG hold a greyhound memorial event.
This year we were in Norwich City center making the public aware that commercial greyhound racing was first introduced to Britain on July 24th 1926 and since that time, many thousands of greyhounds have been bred, used by and disposed of by the racing industry. As always we received great support from the public and issued hundreds of leaflets.
The City was busier than ever today as our event coincided with the Norwich Pride festivities and parade, which is now in it’s 7th year and is ever growing in popularity from supporters and visitors from all over the country and from overseas.
Also the nearby Chaplefield Gardens was brimming over with visitors to the Norwich comedy festival. So we were able to reach out with our campaign awareness to even more people today.
Of course with four beautiful greyhounds accompanying us today, people had the opportunity to realize just what gentle friendly hounds they are and so we may be able to encourage more people to consider fostering or adopting, as whilst greyhound racing is in existence, there will always be a surplus to requirements of greyhounds needing to be saved and homed.
The hounds also wore their new High Viz awareness coats with slogans making it quite clear that greyhounds are merely betting products who literally are ‘dying to Entertain’.
AFG SHEFFIELD GREYHOUND REMEMBRANCE, AWARENESS DAY/STREET COLLECTION BARKERS POOL, SHEFFIELD 25.07.2015
Rosemary and her adorable greyhound Sean held a successful event in conjunction with this years greyhound remembrance weekend.
The Barkers Pool area of Sheffield was very busy due to the annual Tramline Festival being in full swing. With the opportunity to raise awareness to visitors from all over Britain attending this popular event.
So not only great support, as usual from local people but from newcomers who were otherwise unaware of our campaign.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION WEEKEND PETS AT HOME, YARMOUTH 06 and 07.06.2015
A very busy weekend meeting lots of people and being able to spread our awareness further.
Two separate groups of people raised concern of their workplace either going greyhound racing or considering going for a ‘ social night out’ and we were happy when they willingly took some of our leaflets to distribute at work, hopefully resulting in deterring more people from supporting the industry.
We had a great spot for our awareness station and for most of the day, the hounds were kept in the shade, but once the sun moved around late Sunday afternoon, the hounds wore their Afg ‘wet coats’. The coats gathered lots of interest, which is good, as they should be featured for sale on our website very soon, so lots of hounds can benefit from them too this Summer.
Lots of interest from children, two of the group of young lads featured here had rescued dogs and told us they couldn’t bear any cruelty to animals and they all expressed disagreement with greyhound and horse racing, which is good, considering they live in a town with a greyhound and a horse track nearby.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION WEEKEND PETS AT HOME LAKENHAM, NORWICH 27 and 28.06 2015
Another very busy weekend at one of the three popular Norwich Pets at Home stores.
A lot of hound socializing going on, with many people not realising that greyhounds can and do interact with other dogs, large and small. Of course, sighthounds do have that ‘extra special’ relationship when they meet.
On the Saturday a customer told us he and his wife had been to ‘a night at the dogs’ for the very first time the previous Saturday and were led to believe (by the track promoters) that all the greyhounds love to race and that the track homes ALL the ‘retired’ greyhounds.
A discussion followed, explaining what our campaign is all about and issuing the man with a leaflet and inviting him to visit our website. Sometime later, he took the time to return, to thank us for ‘opening his eyes’ and told us that after meeting our beautiful hounds and reading their stories and our leaflet, that his first trip to a greyhound track would definitely be his last visit.
It is great that we are able to campaign face to face with the public and not only introduce them to the beautiful hounds who Afg have saved and homed, showing people what wonderful animals they are, in the hope more people will be encouraged to consider fostering or adopting greyhounds and in turn be able to save more lives while greyhound racing exists but to be able to also encourage more people not to support the cruel industry.
AFG in SHEFFIELD REMEMBER RUSTY AWARENESS DAY/STREET COLLECTION, FARGATE 02.05.2015
Rosemary and Philip along with their beautiful adopted greyhound Sean, had a very successful day in Sheffield.
The area was very busy all day due to a very popular European market set up in the area. Not only bringing in many locals but also swarms of holiday visitors. So more chance to raise awareness by distributing campaign literature to even more people.
Many people were quite unaware of the mistreatment of greyhounds and were not aware of Rusty’s story and that many thousands suffer as he did.
As always, Afg were well supported by Lush, Fargate, seen here with Sean promoting their ‘vote for animals’ campaign.
REMEMBER RUSTY WEEKEND EVENT AWARENESS DAY/STREET COLLECTION NORWICH CITY CENTRE 02.05.2015
What an amazing day of awareness for Afg in Norwich City centre on May 2nd for our Remember Rusty Weekend event. Now Rusty, along with the hundreds of thousands of greyhounds who have suffered and died in the name of greyhound racing have a place in the hearts of hundreds more people. We had a great article in the Norwich Evening News paper prior to the event and 3 journalism students from Goldsmiths college in London, came down for the day to create a documentary on Afg’s campaign which we are looking forward to viewing on its completion in June.
We met a couple with 2 beautiful galgo boys who were adopted from Spain and now all living in Norfolk, the couple realised it is the same abuse these beautiful hounds suffer, the world over.
Our beautiful hounds wore their new high viz awareness coats and as usual received lots of admiration and attention throughout the day.
We also had our very popular charity stall further up the street which was kept very busy all day with lots of our merchandise and bric-a-brac sold.
Hundreds of our awareness leaflets with the special Remember Rusty leaflets attached were distributed today and Remember Rusty posters were displayed around our awareness station.
We only have a small area, but make very good use of the space allocated to us.
As usual, we have great support from the Lush shop. They were running their votes for animals/voice for animals campaign and took photos of our awareness pitch with the hounds, as well as photos outside their shop, which have been posted on their Facebook and Instagram.
Lush are so supportive of our campaign and had a Rusty poster displayed in their window all day and gave Afg leaflets to their customers.
AFG STALL WITH REMEMBER RUSTY AWARENESS ARMINGHALL CAR BOOT SALE, NORWICH. 04.05.2015
A beautiful Bank Holiday Monday meant Afg could carry on raising awareness and Remembering Rusty over this busy weekend.
This is probably the most popular and largest car boot sale in Norfolk and today was extra busy with hundreds of holiday makers visiting the sale, which meant we had an even bigger opportunity than usual to raise even more awareness and distribute more of our campaign information material.
We met many people who told us about their rescued greyhounds and other rescued dogs, it is very encouraging to hear that so many people are opting to rescue animals.
Of course we also had many wonderful items of clothing, bric-a-brac and books etc. on sale, which are kindly donated throughout the year for us to continue to raise vital funds as well as many happy customers grabbing great bargains.
AFG STALL CAR BOOT SALE CATTON PARK, NORWICH 27.05.2015
A new local Wednesday car boot sale in the beautiful surroundings of Catton Park.
Today was part of the half term week and we met a lot of holiday makers including many children, so were able to raise more awareness of our campaign.
As usual, the hounds received lashings of attention from customers and as Catton Park is such a popular dog walking park, we met lots of beautiful hounds of all shapes and sizes, many of them were rescued, which is really great.
GAIN and DERBY ANIMAL RIGHTS AFG STALL AT COMPASSIONATE DERBY EVENT 06.12.2014
Natalie did a great job organizing the Afg stall with help from campaigners from GAIN (Greyhound Action in Nottingham) and Derby Animal Rights. Lots of Afg’s unique merchandise sold as well as many of our awareness leaflets taken.
Another great event, not only for raising awareness of the plight of greyhounds, but also for other exploited and abused animals from various other campaign stalls and of course promoting a vegan, cruelty free lifestyle. So hopefully lots more people are now so more aware of these issues.
AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAY TESCO, STALHAM 10.12.2014
We were given a great space in the sunshine outside the store to accommodate our awareness station, which of course is erected mainly to keep the hounds cozy.
We met up with many locals who make a point of speaking to us at this store as we only have an event here once a year and we always receive so much support and encouragement.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAYS ROYS of WROXHAM 18 & 19.12.2014
We were so lucky for so late in the year to have some wonderful mild weather for this 2 day event.
Being so close to Christmas it was so very busy in this popular Norfolk town, meaning we were able to meet and raise awareness to so many more people.
Again we were accommodated with such a great space for our base under the cover of Roys department store.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAY PETS AT HOME, HALL ROAD, NORWICH 24.12.2014
Our other Norwich event for Christmas Eve was at the 2nd of the 3 Norwich Pets at Home stores.
William and Sandra were lucky enough to have a great space allocated to them inside the store, enabling beautiful greyhounds Wilf and Alice to have the luxury they are accustomed to with their cozy beds.
Much interest was shown today from scores of customers visiting the store on one of their busiest days of the year. Many of whom were not aware of our work, so it is encouraging to know that Afg are still gaining so much more awareness of our cause.
AFG AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAY PETS AT HOME, SPROWSTON, NORWICH 24.12.2014

We had constant visits throughout the day from the pet store customers as well as the ones from the other various stores on this busy, popular trading estate.
We received many very generous donations and were kept very busy discussing our campaign and stories of the beautiful greyhounds who accompanied us today.
ACTION FOR GREYHOUNDS NEWCASTLE – MERCHANDISE AND INFORMATION STALL – NEV FEST 02.11.2014
Lynsey and Heather organized this event at the Stadium of Light. This is a great annual event which is growing in popularity each year.
This is the first time the group have done a stall at the Nev Fest which included many local Animal protection campaign/awareness stalls as well as promoting veganism and a cruelty free life style. The girls say they were kept very busy all day and wish the event was held weekly.
They met some fantastic, compassionate people from the other stalls and received great support all day from the visiting public.
The organizers arranged several contests on the day for the various campaigns to benefit from and the competition of who could eat the most sausages (vegan ones of course!!), all proceeds were donated to Afg.
Hopefully this relatively new group who are campaigning in the Newcastle and Sunderland areas, with regular Saturday evening protests outside the Brough Park greyhound track in Newcastle, will gain some new supporters from the awareness at the event.
AWARENESS/COLLECTION DAY – TESCO, BLUE BOAR, NORWICH 13.11.2014
We were made very welcome with 2 of our beautiful greyhounds, with a great space in the store foyer. A very busy day with constant support from Tesco shoppers.

Rosemary and her beautiful greyhound Sean we given a great area inside the store on this very busy weekend.
Lots of leaflets given out and many generous donations made and of course lovely Sean recieved lots of attention and he did a great job making people aware that greyhounds are just so gentle and charming.
One little girl who was frightened of dogs, gradually plucked up courage to stroke Sean and soon became besotted by him….well done to Sean, a great ambassador for the greyhounds.

Our unique stall gained a lot of public interest throughout the day and many people took our campaign awareness leaflets. We also gained 2 more knitting volunteers.

Dedicated Rosemary is out and about in and around Sheffield, constantly raising vital awareness of the plight of greyhounds, often out in all weathers and on nicer days, is accompanied by her beautiful adopted greyhound Sean, who has now gained a ‘fan club’ of his very own.
Rosemary and her family and Sean are gradually gaining a great reputation around this area with the public who are very supportive of the Afg campaign.
MECCA BINGO – NORWICH – COLLECTION/AWARENESS EVENING 29.10.2014
Another great idea for an awareness event, at a bingo hall where people are enjoying a good night out without being in support of animal cruelty and exploitation.
We were kept very busy during the two 15 minute breaks from the evenings bingo sessions. The hounds were able to accompany us this evening, being an indoor event.
The management made us all very welcome and we were allocated a large area in the hall to enable us to put up a great display to promote the Afg campaign as well as having ample space for the hounds and their cozy beds. Of course beautiful Wilf and Zyri received constant attention from bingo players.
We sold several of our 2015 calendars and received many very generous donations.
We had 2 very good articles including photos pre and post the event in our local Evening News paper.
PETS AT HOME, LOWESTOFT, SUFFOLK – COLLECTION/AWARENESS WEEKEND 6 & 7.09.2014
A great weekend in Suffolk for raising awareness, as usual the beautiful greyhounds received lashings of attention.
We meet regular supporters of our cause when we visit this branch as well as many new members of the public, many of whom are, until they meet us, quite unaware of the welfare issues surrounding the racing industry.
CHARITY STALL, HAYMARKET, NORWICH 27.09.2014
We have a regular stall, usually once a month in Norwich City Centre and have become very well known since we had our first stall here way back in 2000.
The stall has become very popular over the years and when the weather is nice a couple of beautiful greyhounds accompany us with their little ‘snug’ area at the side of the stall where many visitors pay them much attention.
We have some very unique and good quality items regularly donated for us to sell, as well as our own unique, exclusive merchandise.
AFG STALL AT CATTON PARK, NORWICH FUNDAY & DOG SHOW 28.09.2014
Friends of Catton Park staged this show, only the 2nd of this new annual event and this year with dozens more stalls.
Lots of local craft stalls, childrens entertainment, a great car boot sale, fun dog show with great prizes and rosettes, medieval re enactment displays, beer tent, refreshment barn and lots lots more. This is hoped to now be a regular annual event for the last Sunday in September.
Main attractions on our stall was the cuddly toy tombola and the dog tombola, made possible with all the fabulous new cuddly toys and dog food, toys and treats which were kindly donated throughout the year. Our merchandise and dog accessories were very popular too.
The glorious weather made the day a great success, with a great end to our busy Summer stalls and other events for this year.
